New 2013-2014 FitEaters Project

FitEaters is a FREE educational programme, funded by the Big Lottery Fund and Well-being in the East that Disability4Sport will be running at 10 Special Needs Schools within Essex and Suffolk.

The FitEaters programme is a 7 week block project tailor-made to meet the needs of the students. The sessions are fully interactive and have been expertly designed to promote physical activity and healthy eating education.

During the FitEaters sessions our trainers and nutritionists will run structured tuition that encourages students to make better decisions regarding their diet and exercise options. Students will learn the benefits of making healthier choices, which include improved physical fitness and mental health and well-being, increased individual self-esteem, increased social skills and improved social cohesion.

With the emphasis on education and personal tuition that is enjoyable and easy to understand, FitEaters enables the opportunity for students to learn new skills, develop additional interests in some new physical activities as well as gain a better understanding of food groups and their impact on a healthier lifestyle.

Each student will have a personal FitEaters workbook to remind them and their parents/ carers/ guardians how they are progressing, which in turn helps to encourage and empower students to make permanent lifestyle changes in the future.

At the end of each course we shall invite parents, siblings, carers, support workers and teachers to our end-of-project workshop to celebrate the students' achievements and also to emphasise how best to assist the FitEaters students in continuing with their personal diet and exercise programmes in the future.
